SPORT HAS THE POWER TO CHANGE THE WORLD

  • Using sport for social change
  • 18 projects for 50,000 children in Germany and Austria
  • Taking children by the hand to confront social challenges together

The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation Germany was set up in 2001 as the first national Laureus foundation, using the power of sport to help disadvantaged children and young people in their personal development, and exert a positive influence on society.

In 2009, the foundation also became active in Austria. German and Austrian Sport for Good projects have so far given help, advice and career support to more than 50,000 children and young people from troubled communities.

The Sport for Good projects encourage values such as team spirit, respect, discipline and fair play - values which also help youngsters in their day-to-day lives, at school and during apprenticeships and job training.

Children and young people who are handicapped or come from troubled communities learn through the power of sport to believe in themselves, to pursue their goals, to overcome setbacks and to take charge of their lives. Whether street football, skateboarding, therapeutic riding, basketball or boxing: These social sports projects motivate children not only to lead active lives, but also to get a firm grip on themselves.
